Sattal | High Speed Birding

I spent a day in Sattal and since time was constrained, I mainly wanted to see some birds which i have not seen before and for which i dont have images. I was mainly looking forward to making some image of strikingly beautiful red billed leiothrix and green tailed sunbird. As luck would have it i did not get to make images of my target species but saw whole lot of other birds which i have not seen before.

Here is a rufous chinned laughing thrush in morning light. One interesting fact is they are found near the himalayan belt but there is reported plummage variation between what is found in eastern and western himalayas. This image is of the one found in the western region. Notice the strong contrast around the throat region in comparison the eastern variety has much paler throat.

The Great Barbet is a very colorful barbet seen around himalayan regions. You see quite a number of them around sattal region. I made numerous images of this barbet but in the end the following image was the standout of the lot. I processed this first in color because the barbet is so colorful it looked like that was the default way to go. But looking at the surrounding and setting i made a black and white image as well that brought a different well. Will post that in a different post.
