Sattal Lake - Symmetry

Evening at Bhimtal Lake
Bhimtal lake is one of the lakes in Sattal. The place is named after Bhima of Mahabharata. Bhima is said to have visited this place when pandavas were in exile. I went there to make some images of the lake in its natural settings but the place currently is completely commercialized and was totally surrounded by buildings. In the midst of buildings the abstract of a tree which was at the edge of the lake was the only thing that seemed interesting.

Made this at BR hills. I saw this pond heron at the edge of the lake just outside the jungle lodges camp. I was crawling and the lake bank was at a higher elevation. The water was green in color and the foreground was also green because of the grass. Instead of getting a complete frame of the pond heron I tried sandwiching it between the blur created by background water and the foreground grass. Felt this overall gave an abstract mood to the image.

Metallic Fern
Made this image yesterday at night 9:00 pm. I have this fern plant in my house balcony. Moved the curtains around so that only this stem was illuminated with the light from room bulb ( regular Incandescent light bulb at 40W ). The warm light gave a metallic feel to the fern leaf. Of course the light was so less the image was made at ISO 1600, 1/20 at f/2.8 with canon 100mm f/2.8. Would have loved to increase DOF but it was slightly windy and could not increase the shutter. Removing noise removed the metallic feel also so retained it.

Updated :
Same fern leaf made an image of it the next day in the morning light.

Stairway to Heaven ...
Made this image at home last week. It had just finished raining and the moment I saw this lily leaf covered with water drops it reminded me of this beautiful song by Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
And she's buying a stairway to heaven ....

Rush of Life
Brought home some flowering plants this weekend. Though the macro lens was trying to see if I could observe any interesting perspectives\compositions. One of it is this. One observation is that with macro lens to get the maximum leverage it is best to use the lens in manual focus mode. The reason is since the macro lens has a ultra thin DOF with the lens in manual focus as we turn the focus ring you can see the various patterns the lens generates. This can lead to some interesting images.

Patterns and Hues
Controlling the Depth of Field can give rise to interesting abstracts. In this case the subject is very common but while climbing the hills of ramanagaram saw this against the back drop of the sky and found the combination appealing. In this part of the subject is in focus partly it is not in focus coupled with the fact the blue hue created by the sky in background gives a very moody and abstract feel.
