Sikkim : Moon over Mountains

The human eye has a focal length perspective of 50mm. Any focal length above gives an exaggerated perspective of the distant object. I wanted to leverage this idea in making an image of moon setting over the horizon. More specifically I was hoping the moon set at early mornings would happen over kangchenjunga and I would be able to make an image of moon with an exaggerated perspective with respect to kangchenjunga ( Another example of this is if you had watched the movie Bruce almighty there is a scene in which Jim carrey pulls the moon closer for Jennifer Aniston giving it a bigger than normal size. Was looking at something similar with respect to kangchenjunga as comparison :)). As it turned out from Lava or Neora valley where I tried, the moon set was occurring over the adjacent mountain which was rishyap a small and one of the many high altitude towns around Lava. So though the original idea did not pan out still managed to make some images of moon setting over Rishyap.

Sikkim : Moods of Lava

Lava is a small sleepy hamlet in northern part of Bengal. Lava in bhutanese is broken into "La" meaning the lord and "va" meaning his presence. Like other places in north east time stands still in this place.

Fern Alignment
As part of the morning bird search in lava we came across these patch of ferns. I wanted to make some different images of them but by then our driver had sighted some bird activity and in trying to figure out what he had found I got distracted. Then coincidentally while coming back from Neora Valley we happened to pass through the same route which gave me another chance to make some images of them.

Nathula Peak in morning light
The peak looks barren. An image from the place where we stayed. I made this image in December. Think by now the peaks would be covered with snow.

Patterns of fern
Another fern image made while walking along Lava aligarh road.

Black Bulbul
On top of the canopy. An accidental shot. Only during the time off processing I noticed the second bulbul in the frame.

Sikkim : Light Series

At the end of sikkim trip though it was not a conscious choice I realized most of my images were oriented towards the magical light I had witnessed over the mountains. Here is the light series from the trip.

Sikkim & North Bengal

Made a trip to Sikkim and Northern part of bengal in the last week of Dec 2010. Covered Lava,Neora Valley,Kalimpong and Pelling. Here is a curtain raiser shot from the trip.

Rangit & Teesta
Teesta at 315 km is the life line river of sikkim. Rangeet which is its tributary forks off at the border between Bengal and Sikkim. In the image water with darker blue tint is Rangeet and the lighter blue tinted one is Teesta. The Upper part in the image where sadhus are meditating on the banks is sikkim and the lower part is Bengal.
