Gethiya | Birders Delight

Gethiya is a small village sandwiched between Kumaon mountains. One of the reasons we chose this place was the opportunity to spot quite a number of birds in the place of stay itself.

In the evenings as the sun sets over the adjacent mountains of Kumaon the play light of created different layers before going completely dark.

In the himalayan foothills when you hear a harsh bird call you might ignore it thinking it is the all too familiar crow. Please have a look around though it might be the call coming from the beautiful grey treepie.

I remember these birds being perched high in the canopy in sikkim. The black bulbul used to be earlier called himalayan bulbul. Very common in the himalayan regions.

Outside the place we stayed there was a deserted tree. In the morning I was anticipating some bird activity in the tree there. This greater yellow naped woodpecker was one the of the first ones that turned up.

One of my favourite images from the trip. Colorful great barbet in diffused morning light.
