Magpie Robin taking bath
On the main road of masinagudi there was a puddle. The magpie robin decided it was a nice place to take bath. Any bird for that matter takes bath to clean its wings since they gather dust after lot of flying. But a small bird is also very vulnerable to attack especially by cats after a bath because the wings would be heavy and till it dries completely the bird would not be able to make a clean getaway. For that reason when a bird decides on a place of bath it ensures that there are nearby perches around so that it can make a quick hop if required and if it sees threat. Additionally since these are not water birds they do not know swimming and they only chose puddles which are very shallow so that their feet are firmly planted on ground while they bathe. I was driving when I noticed this guy taking bath and braked immly. I made a couple of images. The robin saw the car and not knowing whether it was a threat decided to play it safe and hopped off to a nearby branch.
