Jog Falls

Though I had made a visit to the famous Jog falls about 5 years back this trip was even more enjoyable. The water level was less but in an associated fashion the visitors to the falls was less as well. Trying to make different landscape images seems quite challenging. It is very easy to get into a routine of decreasing shutter speed and making images with the water giving a silky feel. When we stand in front of water falls or for that matter any grand landscape lot of questions come up with respect to image making. The feel and experience we get when we visit these beautiful locations it would be nice if we can replicate it in an image. So what stands in this way of replication

- From a technical side may be exposure latitude, accurate color rendering limitations. But this does not seem to be the main problem. I used to think limitation of accurately expressing what we feel is limited by the camera capabilities and I dont think that is true.
- The bigger issue seems to be we are compressing a multidimensional experience ( grand view, cool breeze, dampness in the air to name a few ) into a 2 dimensional photo. This seems to result in an information loss and resulting image is nice but something still feels missing. After a point all landscape images some how seem to appear the same and this appears to be a harder problem to address.

Anyway as I was looking at the falls these thoughts were running through my mind. How should the dampness on the rocks around the falling water be captured ? How can the rising mist that starts from the base of the falls and moves itself towards the top be represented ? How to make images of this falls that would be different from the countless number of the images that have already been made before. These and many more unanswered questions with no clear cut answers kept popping up. The answers seem far from obvious but as Trinity says in the "Matrix" movie looks like it is the question that drives us :)
