Bandipur is a tropical dry deciduous forest with a canopy cover of 33%. What this means is that since it is deciduous the leaves would fall off and the forest would become dry after a particular month. The best time to visit would be from june to september when the monsoon sets in and the forest is green with plenty of wildlife. Canopy percentage gives an indication of how much the trees bunch together contiguously to form a natural cover. It is also the area above forest floor where the tree crowns meet to form an interactive web of life of its own. 90% of photosynthesis occurs at the canopy and they are essential to sustain the health of the forest.
